Linking Tracks & Trails
Location: Darug
Client: Greater Sydney Parklands
Sprout Studio was engaged to lead a project team in delivering a series of missing links in the walking trails and share path network throughout the Western Sydney Parklands. Sprout led planners, archeologists, ecologists and engineers through a series of complex site and planning issues to deliver extensions to the parkland track through highly sensitive environmental and cultural zones of the parklands.
The trail is a much loved public green infrastructure asset, frequently used by locals and visitors.
Users enjoy daily exercise and reduced daily commuting times to transport nodes. The project encompassed track heads, viewing decks, bike facilities, seating, native plantings, stormwater infrastructure in consultation with key stakeholders including local residents, Council’s, businesses and the local aboriginal land council.
A carefully considered delivery strategy based around a meaningful consultation approach was key in achieving a smooth planning pathway and design implementation.
Stage 1 works were completed late 2019 with stage 2 set for late 2021.
